U.K.- Naked Rambler Faces Life in Prison

Cover up or face life in jail, naked rambler is warned - Crime, UK ...
Jan 12, 2010 ... Naked rambler Stephen Gough has been warned he faces spending the rest of his life in prison if he continues to refuse to wear clothes in ...
http://www.independent.co.uk/.../cov...d-1865690.html -

Prudish Victorian times still linger in Britain it seems so if into naked rambling (walking on footpaths) cover up or face being gaoled.

Maybe Gough should head to Switzerland, where naked rambling is quite the rage and tolerated in places

Or to Germany where he can prance around naked in any public park

But to jail a bloke for life because he refuses to wear clothes- this is something i think not even the American justice system would do (it would confine him to a mental hospital probably)

So if rambling in Britain, keepat least your undies on

>>But to jail a bloke for life because he refuses to wear clothes<<

If you read the article, you will see that is not what is being said, rather that if he goes on repeating what he knows to be an offence, he will be continually charged and no doubt imprisoned as a result. Not quite the same thing. Though I agree, prison is a ludicrous waste of everyone's time and money in this case.

Right now I'd be a bit more worried about him catching his death of cold

Well i did read that and should have pointed that out - and the guy even is naked when he comes out the prison door - does this qualify for confinement in a mental hospital for refusing to conform to societal norms? Why is human nudity so offensive?

I'm not saying i would like many people prancing around naked but if they want i could care less - walk thru a German park like in Munich and you will see scores of naked folk right along the walking path - most IME are older and plumper folks that you really do not like to see in the buff but it harms no one

I even think that this Gough guy may thrive on publicity and it they just ignored him he may go away

Remind me.
Is it in Britain where a teacher can be sacked for taking students to see nude statues in an art gallery?
Is it in Britain that a children's book can be banned because it contains a picture of an art gallery with tiny pictures of nudes? http://tinyurl.com/yc9glxr
Is it in Britain where a male bird can't be called a cock?
Is it in Britain where the word "toilet" causes people to faint in horror?

In the US he would already be in jail for life under the three strikes rules.

Why is it seemingly only men who insist on naked rambling/cycling in public?

Hetismij, naked cycling?!? That just sounds incredibly uncomfortable for either gender.

While I don't necessarily think wandering around naked should be a jailing offense, that is the law. If you knowingly break the law, constantly, you're going to get caught and fined/jailed repeatedly. If you have a problem with that, put on the bare minimum to comply for a while and take it to court. Fight to get the law changed instead of just continuing to be such a putz.

Well no in the U.S.this guy would have been arrested from the get-go - he would have never got to John O'Groats - thanks to our American Taliban - the conservative Christians that control local politicis in many rural areas.

Might it qualify as some sort of "vision pollution" punishable as a misdemeanor like littering? Looking around here, I really don't want to see many of these folks walking around nude--though the cute redhead over there would be OK.

We fought two wars to not be German.

Nuff said (incidentally, being naked in public isn't illegal)

What are the charges he has been arrested for then, if being unclothed in public is not illegal, CW?

His problem is Scottish law. Different to the rest of the UK. And indecent exposure is against the law no matter where he is.
But he seems determined to be arrested and go to jail.
I wonder what if wife and kids make of it all.

I wonder how 'indecent' it really is when it's this cold.

There can't be very much on view to cause offence........

We were in Cornwall in the Spring of 2003 when he came through there on his way North. We didn't see him, but the papers were giving him full coverage. Wouldn't think there would be much to see, as we were bundled up and wearing long john underwear.

Apparently, Scottish police were waiting for him when he got let out of the nick so they could re-arrest him.

Read that again.

You can hardly walk into a Glasgow boozer without someone stabbing you. But the Poliss have time to loiter round a prison to arrest a nutter who just likes taking his clothes off.

So who shoud be confined to a loonie bin? The nutter? Or the Scottish electorate that tolerates their Poliss wasting Poliss time?

Every police service has its Inspector McKnacker, sadly.
