Ten years ago we took a two week trip which included Amalfi, Matera and part of Puglia . We loved the trip and have always thought about returning (I even wrote a trip report back then). My wife's brother and his wife recently mentioned they wanted to go to the Amalfi Coast so we decided to join them and reprise our earlier trip with some changes.

We'll be going for two weeks in June and have a starting intinerary of 5 days in Amalfi, 2 in Matera, 6 based in Ostuni and perhaps the last two nights in Rome where we arrived.

We are just starting to look for accommodations and would be very appreciative of any recommendations. We'd like to stay south of $300 a night per couple, if possible. We're open to a hotel, B&B, airbnb , house or villa. A pool would be nice but not necessary, a nice large common area, indoor or out, is important. We will likely have a car for the whole trip, so parking, at least nearby is essential.

In Puglia we are planing to spend most of out time south of Ostuni, where we did not go last trip.

We know 10 years changes quite a lot so we"d love any help.

I have no idea what it now costs, but in Matera, I had a wonderful experience at the Locanda di San Martino, which has since installed a pool and still gets excellent reviews.

I will be following this with interest, as we are heading to Puglia in June 2020. We have booked a villa and pool near to Ostuni (Ceglie Messapica is closer). So any advice/methods/things to look out for I would be very interested.

kja - Thank you for your post. The name of the hotel sounded familiar so I checked the trip report from 10 years ago and it turns out that we stayed there. We liked the hotel and the location and the staff gave us great recommendations on where to go and to eat. It was relatively new then and looks like they upgraded a bit. We will definitively think about returning there.

hattonth - what is the villa you'll be staying at? Last time we stayed at the masseria il Frantoio. They were known for having fantastic special meals with each course based on a different olive oil of theirs. We had an amazing lunch there.. We would consider staying there again, however since we'll be four this time a villa might make more sense.

hattonth - if this is your first visit around the Ostuni area you might like the last part of the trip report I wrote. It mentions the towns we visited just south of Ostuni - some as we traveled from Matera and some from Ostuni.

We are renting a villa found on homeaway (I know some don't like to use them on here, but we have had some great successes and so far no major tragedies) called
​​Casale Dell'Oliveto - around £300 a night for 6 people. We are hoping In June to find good weather (hot but not ridiculous) and without the hoardes that arrive during the summer.

I have just returned from a week long tour in Puglia. Matera was my favourite place and lucky enough to see some of the filming for the new James Bond movie. I stayed in Polignano a Mare, Matera, Alberobello and Ostuni. Whilst it's good to have a base Matera and Alberobello become really crowded with tourist buses and day trippers. It is an amazing experience to stay in a cave house or Trulli and experience these places late at night or early in the morning, when there are no people and you can get a feel of how they used to be.

hattonth - thanks for villa name. Looking it up led me to a site with quite a number of similar villas with availability. I was surprised that so many accommodations are already sold out. We unsure if we would go with a villa for privacy and full use of the property or a seaside hotel for proximity to restaurants and the town.

lynnstephonson1288 - great pictures. When we were last in Ostuni proper we only had time for a quick hours walk through the town. Looking forward to seeing much more.
