Two nights in or near Lyon with toddler
We are taking a road trip from Carcasonne to Dijon with our two-year old daughter. We have two nights to spend somehwere at the halfway point (Lyon or small town nearby). Any suggestions in terms of towns? Also, any suggestions in terms of hotels, b&b's or the like that might have a kitchenette and extra room for naptime? Most gites don't seem to accept 2 night bookings. Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi; Just south of Lyon [20 miles] is the city of Vienne. Vienne is perhaps a little over two hours to Dijon. However, it is about four hours from Carcasonne to Vienne [30,000 pop.]. A mid point would be the city of Valence [66,000 pop.] I don't think Lyon [473,000 pop.] would be a good idea. For us, it was a horror show driving in the city. Can't help with a place to stay. But I think help is on the way. iris1745/dick

It's about a 6 hour drive from Carcassonne to Dijon. What is thelimit as to how many hours you want to drive in a day? Avignon is on the way. The drive from there to Dijon would be then be 4 hours. Or you could go a little out of the way and go to Grenoble. Chambery or Aix les Bains, further up in the mountains, are about 4 1/2 hours. Nothing wrong with Lyon, except it's the second biggest city in France. You have lots of choices. Go to Google maps and see what catches your attention.

Thank you - so far your replies are really helpful. I heard that Valence isn't all that great of a place to see. We might look back into stopping in Avignon - love it! We would love to see Lyon someday but not if it means fighting gobs of traffic. A smaller town is also a LOT easier with a little one.

Hi jentle; You canno't go wrong visiting Avignon for an overnight. A few hours from Carcassonne, you would then have most of the day to visit. Dijon would then be another four hours, all on a major highway. We stayed in a Mercure that was just inside the old walls. The hotel was built on top of a parking garage, that was on the left as you entered into the old city. Very convienent. http://www.mercure.com/gb/hotel-1952...es/index.shtml ENJOY iris1745/dick

Yep, it's confirmed - we're staying in Avignon and we found a suite at a B&B called "Lumani" that can be seen at http://www.avignon-lumani.com/ it looks really nice. We're all set and are really happy with the itinerary. Thanks again.
