Two nights between Innsbruck and Berlin in winter
Looking for a enjoyable stop for 2 nights on the way to Berlin from Innsbruck. It will be in late December, after Christmas, and we would really enjoy great scenery over a large city but are open to both.
We will be using public transport.
Primary interests would be winter activities outdoors rather than museums, good dining options, great walking or hiking. Ideally a spa/wellness resort with charm would be our first choice.
Thanks for any suggestions you can offer.

If you look for an "old world" spa town which is more or less near the railway main lines from Innsbruck to Berlin you could take a look at Bad Kissingen
http://www.badkissingen.de/en/
From Munich, it takes one change in Würzburg to get there
Bahn.com
There is a direct bus connection to Berlin, though

Thanks everyone.
We have decided to stay in Salzburg for Christmas and then head to Berlin.
Bad Kissingen looks lovely but we have one night and it involves too much train time - almost 12 hours in 2 days.
Munich and Dresden are both lovely but neither is mid way.
Karlovy Vary requires multiple train changes and way too many hours of travel.
Looks like it may be Wurzburg unless anyone has another suggestion.
Really looking for a city/town mid way with not more than one change of trains for each day.
