Two days one night in Switzerland HELP

I have a trip planned to Austria and at the end of the trip we would have two days and one night to spend in Switzerland (we will leave from Zurich). I would love to see some Alpine scenery. Is this possible in such a short time? Any suggestions? Where should one go to see at least something for not too much travel. We would not be able to hike too far. If Alpine scenery would be impossible, what cities would you suggest? We are leaving beginning April and we are two females.

Anneke

Ordinarily I'd urge you train down to the Jungfrau Region south of Interlaken and enjoy the mountains there. Mountain weather in April is quite undependable though.

Safer plan would be to spend the time in Luzern. Colorful, enjoyable small city. If good weather lake and mountain excursions quite nice.

As Luzern is only 70 or 75 minutes from Zürich airport you can spend your last night in Europe there unless you've a >>very<< early plane.

Sketch of Luzern possibilities at www.twenj.com/swissdest.htm
Anneke - - Ed has forgotten more about Switzerland than I will ever know, so he can and should be your primary resource here.

But on my last trip to Lucerne, I thought that the Hotel Albana in Weggis was GREAT. It would not entirely make up for Lucerne (i.e., don't skip Lucerne altogether) - - but it is a terrific place to stay, and it's the natural origin to go up on Rigi Kulm.

Best wishes,

Rex
I completely agree with Ed on this one. Two days would be enough for a decent introduction to the Jungfrau region, which is truly spectacular. However, the weather could cause problems. The views in the mountains, for example, just are not the same on a bad weather day. Luzern is a very attractive city, and the lake is surrounded by mountains.
