Two Days in Florence - Recommendations ?

Hi,

I will be in Florence for a wedding the first week in July. We will have two free days in Florence. Does anyone have recommendations for the best way to tour the city, and the not to be missed
sites?

Most of the sites tourists are interested in are in a compact area and within easy walking distance to each other. I suggest picking up a guidebook to see what interests you most. I like museums so would opt for the Accademia Gallery to see Michelangelo's David and the Uffizi museum. I would visit the Duomo and Baptistry, see the Medici chapel, hang out for a while in the Piazza della Signoria, walk across the Ponte Vecchio and have some gelato. My list just scratches the surface of all you can do but may give you some ideas.
Have fun!

My personal favorite is the San Marco convent just beyond the Accademia. It has wonderful frescos by Fra Angelico as well as the cell where Cosimo de Medici worshiped.

Another vote for the San Marco convent.
Also, go up to the Piazzelle Michelangelo for a stunning view of the city. Then climb up a little above it to San Miniato.

You won't be able to see all of the city's art treasures in a few days, so plan to go back for another visit later.

If either or both of your two free days falls on Sunday or Monday, you may not be able to see as many of the main sights as you hope to. Check open/closed days for things that appeal to you, find their locations on a map and plot a logical route. Make entry reservations for anything that offers them; otherwise, you could waste a lot of time in lines. If you want to climb to the lantern atop the Duomo, get an early start before it gets too hot.
