Done! I booked at Politian Apartments. Thanks again to everyone who contributed - I really appreciate the help!

I'll be sure to post a trip report when we get back to let everyone know how it went.

(I'm researching cooking courses and wine tours now - I'll start a new thread for that, but if any of your have insight into those, that would be wonderful as well!)

Check into Avignonesi, Poliziano and Boscarelli wineries---and there are many more. The cooperative in the basement of the TI will arrange tours.

Thanks, macanimals, I'll definitely look into those places! Could you please tell me what the TI is, though?

TI=Tourist Information
Montepulciano has its TI in Piazza Grande, near the top of the town. There is an office of the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Consorzio in the basement with a small tasting room. It is somewhat irregularly staffed but friends of mine had very good experiences with guided tours arranged through the office.

Poliziano and Avignonesi have facilities for somewhat formal tasting tours (and food if desired) and reservations would be a help.

There are also several tasting rooms in the town virtually always open.
Have fun--Paul
