Tuscan, Umbrian yarn shops?

In 4 days several (14) fiber artist friends and I will leave for Tuscany/Umbria. We will stay in Sarteano, south of Siena, near the border of Umbria. We will have cars. We would love to find shops/factories that sell knitting yarn. The best stuff we buy in Maine is Italian! Any recommendations?
Thanx!
elisabet

How about cashmere yarn??
That would probably be quite a bargain. If you get the names of some yarn shops, or even how to say what you need in Italian, make sure that you write down the prices of the same amount of Italian yarn from your Maine store for comparison before you go. Finding a store might not be easy -- I'm wondering if knitting is "in" in Italy??

If anyone on the board could advise, in Italian, what you are looking for, you might have more luck when you arrive.

Are "yarn shops" a common thing in a fairly good sized Italian town, or would you have to shop in Rome or Florence?

Good luck --- I'm looking (maybe) for the same thing.

P.S. Has anyone had any luck bringing
their current knitting project
on the plane??
