Turkey Trip-Summer 2005
Kind of a last minute idea. We will already be in Greece and are considering Turkey to fill some time in the middle of our stay. Tentative dates are July 26-August 5th.
We would be flying from Athens to Istanbul and maybe returning from Izmir to Athens.
We thought 2-3 days in Istanbul, rent a car, and head down the coast.
Any help with an itinerary, hotels, car rental advice and sites to visit would be appreciated.
When we head south we would like hotels on the water, as we like the beach. $150 US would be a good price range per night.
Hope you all can help. Thanks!

I am going in early to mid-June and I plan the following:
1st 3 nights in Istanbul and last 2 at http://www.bluehouse.com.tr/english/welcome.asp
3 nights in Kalkan at http://www.clubxanthos.com/
2 nights around Bodrum in an area called Turgutreis
http://www.suhotel.net/
3 nights in Kusadasi (a bit outside the town) at http://www.kismet.com.tr/
turkeytravelplanner.com is very useful. I found car rentals and domestic flights to be cheaper when you use a turkish travel agent.

Crosscheck,
The trip by bus between Istanbul and Kalkan is estimated at 12-14 hours. It's 565 miles or 910 km.
Depending upon your time frame and your costs, you might want to fly to Antalya and then drive to Kalkan. Seems a much more manageable trip that way.
