Trying to find a studio in Paris

Hello, my daughter thinks she has found something in her price range for a 50-month stay in Paris: Rue de Suez in the 18th arrondissement. What sort of area is this? It's a fifth-floor walk up studion in a 19th century building, offered through Paris Attitude. Could it be possible, or does anyone have any other suggestions? The idea of choosing a place sight-unseen leaves me incredibly nervous.

Do you really mean 4 years and 2 months, or is that a mistype? That sounds incredibly long to rent a studio, especially on the 5th (6th?) floor! But her legs will be incredible when she returns. I can imagine that you're nervous, I would be also. I'm sure she's excited, however. Wish I could help with the area, but not familiar with it.

Well, it's in Montmartre so that could be good if she's an artiste.

For 50 months, I would certainly be leary of a 5th floor walk up. (Which means 6 floors in France.) She'll definately have nicely developed calves at the end of her stay. ;-)

I remember that metro stop as having the steps from hell, but then I'm probably much much older than your daughter so that might not be an issue.

Oh heavens, I meant a five-month stay! Shows how distracted I am. Please forgive my wretched typing and failure to proofread. I do so value your help.

I think she should shop for a nicer neighborhood. Rue de Suez is east of Boulevard Barbes. We wandered over there once from Place du Tertre then Marche St-Pierre. Nothing too objectionable, but we were very glad when the bus came along.

PS Rentals are much more reasonably priced in the 18th. If it were my daughter, I would recommend limiting an apartment search in the 18th to west of Sacre Coeur. The closer to Bus #80, the better. Nicer neighborhood...

Keep in mind that Sacre Coeur is on a steep hill. The entire area is hilly. The sidewalks (many of which are actually staircases) are quite steep.

Okay, thanks; I'm getting a better idea of the neighborhoods. Has anyone had any experience with long-term (in her case, 5-month) rentals through agencies? She is thinking of using Paris Attitude.
