I know I will be the minority on this one, but I just never understood the fascination with truffles.......except for the chocolate kind of course!

But personally, I like exotic foods and a varied palate for sure, but I guess I just don't go for things that are seen as gourmet.

"Gourmet " is such an overused word. I really do not understand what it means except that it is overused by people trying to market food items and restaurants. Just have an open mind...be keen on trying new things and see what YOU like......things that are called gourmet these days are most often just foods that have been appreciated by regular folk throughout time......then someone "discovers" them and they get that label....."gourmet!!!"

True, true...the word gourmet may just be an overused word encouraged to promote buying and exclusivity of different foods.

I think that maybe because of all the emphasis that some people place on eating gourmet or fancy gourmet restaurants, etc...I have been turned off by things labeled as such.

While I can definately enjoy a nice langostin omelette, I will be just as happy with a "crawfish and eggs" omellette!

(the punn is that the langostin and crawfish are very similiar sea creatures and in some cases, some people use the names interchangeably!)

My small bottle of truffle oil has been sitting unrefrigerated near my stovetop ever since I bought it at least a year ago at Whole Foods. I continue to use it and it is still very flavorful.

One of my favorite combinations is crabmeat and truffle oil.
