Wow, Tom! Your dinner aprty at the 'ruins' sounds completely enchanting. I admire your way of making new friends so easily. To think you might not have ever had this adventure had you not offered to make them dinner.

You have a love for Italy that many of us share, it has not just been a destination for you twice, it is now part of your soul.

Thank you again for this lovely report.

I am glad that you have gotten a taste of more than just sightseeing. To make friends in Italy must be a real treat.

I have been patiently awaiting to hear what you thought about Paris. I hope you don't forget us.

I want to apologise for taking so long to get back to my report. But due to an accident at work about a week ago, I was limited to typing with one hand, which was way too frustrating to do.

But my hand has healed, so lets now head off to Paris!

Day 16 - Florence/Milan/Paris

I had looked into the many possible ways to get from Florence to Paris. And the one that worked the best was to catch the 7am Eurostar to Milan to catch a 1pm flight on EasyJet.

The train is 20 minutes behind schedule when we arrive in Milan. And when I exit the station to catch the bus to Linate Airport, there is a pea soup thick fog shrouding the city.

The check-in at EasyJet made Southwest look like a 5* airline. What a mess!! They have only 2 agents to check-in a sold out flight. And one of the agents seemed like she was still in training. She has a question for the other agent for EVERY passenger she is checking in. After more than an hour, I have my boarding pass.

Due to the fog, the fight is delayed by half an hour. But somehow we arrive at Orly Airport just 5 minutes late. After collecting my luggage, I meet up with the shuttle I reserved and am headed off to Paris.

I am staying at the Hotel Monte Carlo in the 9th on Rue Du Faubourg Montmarte. The room is small but has its own shower. Plus I finally have internet access in my room. And at 39 euro a night, it is quite a bargain.

After getting settled in, I head out to the Eiffel Tower on foot. Believe it or not, my map reading skills have seemed to improve greatly (plus it doesnt hurt that I can see the top of the tower the whole time)

The walk was longer than I expected. No big deal, this way I get to see more of the city on the way.

When I finally get there the tower is just starting to light up. There is a large crowd hanging out just to watch this. I call my younger sister, and the first words out of her mouth are "Let me guess, you are standing in front of the Eiffel Tower? You suck!!" And just on cue, the twinkling lights start to go off. Too cool!!!

After spending some time to photograph the tower from many angles, I head across the street to a crepe stand for diner. The ham and cheese crepe was perfect!

After eating, I head back in the general direction of the hotel and take in the fact that I am in Paris. Paris at night along the Siene is just too cool and is a photographers dream!

I end up back at the hotel and pop into the little store across the street and grab a bottle of wine and some cheese.

After downloading my photos and sending out some emails, it is time to call it a night.

Tomorrow - A little rain, Ste Chapelle and a whole lot of walking!!

Thanks for posting this report.

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO glad you did NOT listen to all of those "Italy is the only country on earth" folks and included these other locations.

Dukey - You are right. Italy isn't the ONLY country on earth..but it is my favorite.

Now that I have seen, and loved, both Amsterdam and Paris, I am having a hard time trying to decide where to go next year. All I know is, part of it will be in Italy. The rest is up in the air. So many choices, so little time.

Tom

Hi Tom, sorry about your accident, a chef needs two hands, no?

The fog in Northern Italy can be horrible, I am glad you arrived in France on time. Take good care!

So glad you are able to continue! I loved Paris, but I know future travel will be difficult without including Italy. How perplexing!
