I have AOL at home and it is AOL. You can't post on Fodors or search on it with AOL (at least not for a few weeks, most of the time--not sure how long that's been going on as I don't normally use AOL for Fodors). YOu have to have a browser set up on your desktop OUTSIDE AOL to open up for Fodors. That sounds confusing, to have AOL running but an outside browser, but it is possible.

I had had problems posting and searching for almost 6 weeks. A Fodor's techie tried to help, but we were both stymied. I too am an AOL user. Then, one day I tried logging in under my profile and all my other problems ceased. Mind you, I had been able to post and search all the time without logging in to Fodor's, even after the registration started. It's a minor extra step each time, but it IS annoying.

Kismetchimera: I have a Dell Computer. I went into the Control Panel. From there I clicked into Add or Remove Programs. I deleted programs I am no longer using. Among some others I had a few old AOL versions and an unused Earthlink.

Ever since I put AOL 9.0 on my home computer, I cannot log on. I get "Web site not responding" Here at work, I use IE & am automatically logged on when I open Fodors.
Solutions? I wrote FOdor's & they said they would look into it. Tick Tock, Tick Tock....

well, I've had trouble with AOL and Fodors most of the time in the last few weeks, but I was always "logged in" to Fodors, there was no trouble with that. It remembers who you are with cookies, however, so I don't have to log in each time. I would contact AOL about it as I think it's their problem rather than Fodors (obviously, since I have no problem with MSIE on a regular ISP), but it does no good to talk to AOL about anything as they don't care.
As for getting rid of cookies? it's real easy, I do it periodically. This is for MSIE browser but I imagine others are similar -- just go to the "Tools" section on the top bar of the browser open window. Click on Tools, then click on "Internet Options" at the very bottom. The window that opens up has a place to click right on the front window that says "delete cookies". that's all there is to it.
