What class? What do you mean by "best"?

Most people like the cheapest one.

Anyways, you can fly all kinds of airlines with one stop to Rome. Including British Airways, which is the only European airlines that fly to TPA I believe.

Coming back, you are going to make two changes, or an inconvenient London airport stay or airport change.

You may find it not worthwhile to fool with returning from FLR (Peretola) airport; it is so small that it has very limited service (none transatlantic) - - and the train ride back to Rome is only 95 minutes.

Looking at arbitrary dates for spring, (in and out of Rome) the one stop service on Continental (through Newark) is cheaper and much more convenient than the second best choice: Song/Delta (requires two connections, though not necessarily on the return). There is also USAir, but fewer routing choices. One airline is as good as the next.

Best wishes,

Rex

Hi chernan, the Florence airport is closing down for 90 days..sometime the end of February I believe. So do check that out. Evidently flights will be in and out of the Pisa airport instead of the Florence airport. And as much as I "love Italy" I wouldn't count on the Florence airport to be closed for just 90 days..things move slowly in Italy usually.

Hi C,

I don't think that there is a 'best' airline if you are going cattle class.

Check www.kayak.com, www.mobissimo.com and www.1800flyeurope.com for least expensive and most convenient flights.

While FlR is closed, look for flights out of Pisa PSA. There is a train from Florence SMN to Pisa Aeroporto.
