Trip Reports: 6 months Europe & 3 months France & Italy

I haven't been here at Fodor's long enough to know if this is an appropriate way to share (linking to my sites vs writing the text here in threads), but I thought some here might enjoy them.

The first is a 6 month solo Europe driving tour I made in 2000 after what was supposed to have been a terminal cancer diagnosis (they were apparently wrong!) I call it the Joy In Beauty tour, and it was written as a travelogue (blogs didn't exist then) and has photo albums of parts of the journey. Covers varying amounts in Sweden, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Belgium, Netherlands.

The second is a site of photos and more limited commentary on a recent 3 month trip to France and Italy.

I hope they offer fellow travelers some pleasure and inspiration for your future journeys.

Thank you, Karen, it was a wonderful read. Loved the photos, the entire time I was making mental notes of the building colors and placement of potted flowers, plus the climbing roses...oh, me. I must buy more climbing roses this Spring. You write so well, thanks again.

I'm glad you're enjoying my good fortune!

It is indeed amazing how things turn out. Given my ways, I don't deserve the luck I've had. Mostly, though, I get pleasure from sharing the fruits of my passions.

Lydio, I obsessed mightily over a camera for some time, since I wanted a P&S with some wide angle capability & image stabilization. I ended up with a Ricoh Caplio R4, which I learned about on DPR (Digital Photography Review).

Glad you enjoyed the photos.

What a lovely story. I especially love your attention to the people around you, which is what I find most fascinating when traveling (and at home too). Really interesting observations and so well written. Beautiful photos too. Thanks for sharing with us!

Oh, thank you ever so much for providing me with such wonderful Friday night entertainment! I've been wandering through Europe with you on your journeys and marveling at your gorgeous photos. The photos of the young children dancing in Paris were enchanting. And the two women playing the strings were the same duo who performed several nights outside our apartment off Rue St. Andre des Artes last month!

I'm just checking in here, haven't been by since early March when I posted my links. I got a private email from someone who'd visited them, and had no idea how they got there when this original post was made so long ago. I just assume once you post, your posting disappears into the ethers. But somehow, some seem to rediscover them, and I've no idea how that happens! Call me techno-forum-dweeb!

No, I'm not from Austin, julzie.

Thanks to travelgirl and hagen for your kind comments. Mostly, I do these for my own pleasure. It's double when someone else enjoys them.

Thanks for your comments,

Karen

KarenKM,
Thank you so much for sharing your comments and gorgeous pictures. We leave for Italy in 8 wks (for the first time) and you have definately "whetted" my appetite! My husband had to chuckle as I scrolled through them, noticing the "door" pics...story here is that when we came back from Mexico last year, I had about 20-25 door/gate or window-box pictures. Thanks again.

I continue to be amazed that folks here continue to 'find' this thread and visit the site. I'm so glad if my stories of my travels provide some measure of good feeling to others.

I've been working for some time to put all my photos together in various galleries to share my experiences, ranging from the travels I've had, to my garden, to my locality here in Marin County, California. For those who might be interested, I'll put the link below, where I continue to add galleries. Many of the travel photos from France and Italy are the same, but you may find interest in some of the other galleries there.

I so appreciate your comments. One of the joys of this crazy internet thing is how sharing your own pleasures can connect you to others.
