celticmoon, caroline_edinburgh, Barbara_in_FL: Thank you for your kind words

caroline_edinburgh: I have been so busy sorting out the outflow from the Scotland trip that I haven't really thought about my next trip yet. Some potential candidates are:
- Namibia and the Etosha National Park
- The Serengheti plains and the Ngorongoro crater in Tanzania
- Egypt
- The Trans-Siberian railway
- Australia
- Antarctica

I will be visiting my daughter and her family in Surrey again next year (probably in May) and I might try to tour some part of the UK while I am there.
One BIG problem facing me at the moment is the collapse of the South African rand against the world's major currencies. The affordability of overseas travel is becoming delicately balanced and any further falls will force me to look locally for my travel next year

I was away for a couple weeks but was so glad to see this trip report - it sounds like a lovely trip.

I have to agree about Rob Roy's grave as well - my dad loves the movie and right after we moved to Edinburgh, we took a driving trip around and came across the tiny little sign for the grave. It was one of my favourite moments of the day and we've brought some of our visitors back to the spot - it's so peaceful there, you really get a sense of what it must have been like in his time.

Thanks for posting your report!

Just a quick note...we spent almost three years in South Africa in the early 80's. Of course, back then, the rand was considerably stronger.

I am halfway through editing my Scotland pictures and have posted the first album on the web

This album takes you as far as Skye. I will try to get the rest up as soon as possible. In the meantime, I hope that you enjoy these:

Loved the pictures, and thanks for going to the trouble to send them to us. Next trip is Scotland--but with current stock market, could be years!

Those are super photos, Yelpir. You really caught the colurs and the contrasts in a Scottish autumn

Wow, Yelpir, you have some exciting ideas ! Hope they all come to fruition - but if not, at least you live in a lovely (and sunny !) part of the world.

Yelpir:

Can relate to your story about your bag being a little over weight. Had a similar experience flying from Stansted to JFK with MaxJet. I was told by the agent to go and repack my carryon bag, like you a bit over weight. When I came back the other agent said who look she is with MaxJet and didn't reweigh but just waived me thru. It seemed like a bit of a double standard. Any way I am glad you had the extra bag so you didn't have to purchase another one.

Terrific report - glad that both you and Patricia had safe flights back home. That must be another story in itself - Patricia home to Australia and you to South Africa.

Thanks for posting the pictures.

Thanks for a wonderful report. It reminded me of my wonderful trip there with two of my nephews when they were young lads. We had a grand time.

Thanks for the pictures. They were great. I especially liked the rainbows and highland cattle. I looked closely at the picture of the ferry jetty at Craignure and it looked as if the play structure (wooden fort/ship) was still there. The nephews had such fun climbing on that while we waited for the ferry to pull in to take us back to Oban.

*Blushes a deep shade of red*

Thank you all so much for your overly kind words and thank you for going on this journey with me. It has been a lot of fun

bettyk: My main camera is a Panasonic FZ50 but I also carry a Canon A620 for grab shots and for when the weather is bad and I don't want to get water or dirt on the Panny. The A620 is 7 megapixel, 4x optical zoom while the Panny is 10 megapixel, 12x optical zoom. Both cameras produce pretty good pictures. At a rough guess, I would say that I took about 85% of the pictures with the Panny and about 15% with the Canon.

Thanks, Yelpir. My DH is an avid photographer and I know when I show him your photos, he will ask the question. Now I can tell him!

HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!! I almost drowned my keyboard when I read the last post - I also use a Panasonic FZ-50! That is too funny of a coincidence for words. With all the cameras out there, we have the same - and we took a LOT of the same pictures, as we went a lot of the same places.

Sorry if that seems excessively funny to me! I have to wait to browse your second set of photos until I get home tonight - my work computer blocks picasaweb

Hi folks I have a very big favour to ask. I want to enlarge and frame two of my pictures to hang on my wall. The problem is that I am having trouble choosing which two. I would greatly appreciate it if you could take another look at the pictures and vote on the two that you think would look best enlarged, framed and hanging on a wall.

Here are the links again:

Thanks for your help
