Loved your report and all the fun you had in Scotland.
I am now planning my short trip to Glasgow for this summer.
Would love to find out from you what all you purchased in Scotland. Now a days, we can find almost everything from around the globe in US for a better price.
Yet, when we travel, we feel like buying a little something special to the area that would be unique too.
Thus, curious, did you find anything lovely at a reasonable price.

Greetings. I have been away, and was too cheap to pay the hotel charge for Internet/Wifi, and too lazy (stumping around with a broken toe) to make the trek to Starbucks.
ileen - I have not been to Glasgow but I am much intrigued by your forthcoming trip. This was a very fast trip so it was a matter of choosing either one of the major cities, and we picked Edinburgh.
As you know, it is the home town of Charles Rennie MacKintosh, so if you like Glasgow School/Art Nouveau (you know, lovely elongated floral motifs) I am guessing that there will be gift shops that carry things like jewellry and stationery featuring those designs. I cannot report as to prices, I am a terrible shopper.

First of all, I am as I said no historian. I am hoping someone who is one, can comment on whether I got everything more or less right. Anyway, that is a fascinating question, the question of 'royal blood.' I shall just finish off quickly and return to this.
oh, and bilbo - I can see Walter Raleigh being majorly annoyed with our friend James I/VI but what's this about Francis Drake?

Day 8. Crieff to....
At this point, depending on the time one has left, one has options.
One could drive to Glasgow, explore Glasgow a bit, and then fly home from Glasgow.
One could spend another night in Crieff and go visit the Scottish Crannogs (a recreation of a prehistoric village) and then go on from there.
One could drive from Crieff to an airport hotel in either Glasgow or Edinburgh via Stirling castle and fly out the next day.
Or one could have, instead of driving Inverness to Crieff, driven directly from Inverness to Edinburgh airport, skipping Crieff entirely, and fly out the next day.
In our case, to fly home from either of Scotland's main cities would involve a connecting flight to Heathrow and then home from there. This would have meant getting up VERY early as the flight out of Heathrow leaves late morning.
We decided to overnight in Crieff, as we have just done, and fly to London and spend a couple of nights there. This made for a leisurely trip to Edinburgh airport and a flight to Heathrow at a decent hour (lots of flights EDI-LHR per day), a day in London (a city we like very much) and then on home.
So today, day 8, is spent commuting Crieff to EDI (about an hour drive), dropping the car, and catching an early afternoon flight to LHR.
At this point, depending on the time one has left, one has options.

Sorry this question is two years late, but in the above thread is the comment, <" we reach Tyndrum only for a fairly late lunch."> without further comment. Could you elaborate? Is a lunch here recommended? Any particular Inn? would others agree this should be a planned stop for a trip in this area?
