It's wonderful that you sound like me...loving independent travel, and meticulous planning of transportation and lodging, liking to meet locals, etc. Plus I love "long-winded" trip reports, which is how I write too! We have changed our travel month from Oct 08 to May 08 and we will be in Budapest approx 5/20 and then on to Prague for a total of about a week. From Prague we will fly home. (We are starting in Cairo)

I just started re-reading your post, when I realized you were there in May also, and I noticed that you said it was HOT! I realize that this is subjective - but how hot was HOT? Were you uncomfortable at night for example? As we are planning to stay in B&B's and Inns, they will probably not have AC.

What about the train travel? Were the trains comfortable? We will be doing an overnight from Bucharest to Budapest and a day trip from Budapest to Prague.
