Bingo, Myer.Regards to Sandi as well.As an anecdote, this message board has assisted me tremendously in our numerous journeys.As a result, I will be teaching a class on Travel Planning Online at the Golden Age Centre upon my return in the fall from my next trip, Slovenia & Croatia

We don't always travel as a group, but we do take off together about once a year.
Actually, there are five couples, but this year one couple is probably going to Thailand instead of Europe with us (their son is in Thailand).
Group (as in planned with friends) travel is certainly a very un-Fodorite way to go, but we have a really good time together.
We live in a small town, and have known each other for many years. Heck, some of us knew each other's grandparents!
On our trips we don't try to do everything together, but usually meet back at the hotel every day for a drink before going out for dinner. (The couple lucky enough to get the biggest room has to host pre-dinner cocktails.)
On the other hand, husband John and I travel by ourselves, too. In April, we planned and took a trip to Italy in the space of 10 days. And had a great time, too.
At any rate, we're all looking forward to Amsterdam and Bruges in October, and appreciate your help and suggestions.

We have a few friends who travel a reasonable amount. I don't think any of them travels with friends.
I've heard of people who are friends ruining the relationship travelling together. After all, the amount of time you spend together as friends is quite different than on a trip.
As you say, you're not connected at the hip.
I would just wonder what happens when one suggests going to the same place and the other starts to negotiate and. . . .
Then one spouse bends a little more than the other and then there's "why did you change our plans?".
And you guys are still friends. Absolutely fantastic!!!

Well, if you mean how we decide on the destinations, it's something that stays uuder discussion for months!
Take this year's trip to Amsterdam and Bruge. Amsterdam has been on the back burner for several years, since none of us has been there.
It almost aiutomatically moved to the top of the list, since last year we decided to go to Paris (it was just time to go back to Paris) and Prague (nobody had been there, either).
We all see each other a lot, having dinner at at least one couple's home almost every weekend. (Not on any regular schedule. Somebody just calls as says "I'm cooking Saturday night."
And a few weeks after we get home from a trip, somebody says, "Well, Byrd, where are we going next?"
Discussion ensues. Finally, after a few months, a decision is made. It just seems to work out, and everybody seems happy.
On the trips, we don't necessarily have dinner together every night, but frequently do, since there are usually some recommended restaurants we all want to try.
We have some funny witty people in the group, and we do laugh a lot.
I could go on and on, but mainly we all just have a good time together, usually at home since our little town has few restaurants!

Hey syl, I guess your secret is out. Myer knows who you are. And Myer, syl is my cousin. We go on her trips a year later after all thr kinks are out. we don't have to take her course to find out how to arrange things. We have inside info.

Myer -I loved seeing your photos - they are fabulous! I noticed that you visited the Charles Bridge at sunrise. I also plan on doing that to take photos without the crowds. What time were you there for these photos? What time of day were your photos of the clock taken - I noticed that there weren't crowds at that time either.

Fortunately or unfortunately I have a fantastic body clock. The sunrise photos were taken our second day there. All I did was think to myself that it would be nice to be there early. That was it. I woke up around 6AM, got ready and walked across the Old Town, Jewish Disrtrict and onto the Bridge and across it.
Of course, time of morning will vary with time of year.
Since I took over 600 photos, some of the Clock had many people in them. As did photos in the Old Town Square.
If I remember correctly, I took some photos in the Old Town Square, the Clock and Jewish District as well as the bridge quite early the same day.
I also took some photos on the bridge after sunset when the lights were on. Unfortunately we decided to eat dinner after the sunset photos and it didn't get dark until about 10:30PM. We didn't eat until 11PM.
It was worth it.

Awesome photos Myer - really gets me in the mood for Prague especially. I'll be there in 7 days!
I've never been to Brugge. Now after seeing your photos, I'll have to look in to that as a destination for us.

While it's very difficult to compare locations assize and specific sights vary, Brugge has to be among the most beautiful cities I've seen.
It's nowhere near the size of Paris and doesn't have the recognizable sights but for it's size it's really something!!!

I loved all your pictures! The one that made me chuckle, though, was #101, of the lopsided building in Amsterdam, because my husband and I took a picture of that exact same building when we were there in May!

It's my first "digital" trip and I just took photos and figured I'd eliminate later.

I enjoyed your trip report, Myer. Lots of detail, restaurant names and descriptions most welcome. The report comes up when I searched "Prague" without specifying a country, but not when I specified "Czech Republic", so maybe you didn't index it to the individual countries when you posted?
The pictures are fantastic. I feel your pain about editing - I usually take a couple thousand in a two week trip. So difficult to pare it down to something anyone would want to sit through!
The pictures of Prague were especially interesting to me. I've been to the city twice, but both times in December. I saw so many of the same sights, but all were snow covered! I really enjoyed the castle, especially the Golden Lane. We did all of the Jewish quarter sites - the Old New Synagogue is a very cool and very old space, but I don't think we actually advanced our knowledge there.
emyou, Cesky Krumlov is supposed to be wonderful, and Salzburg is lovely as well (have been there three times). You may be able to do both - 2 nights is plenty to get a good taste of Salzburg.

Oh, and I meant to add that I really liked the Bruges and Amsterdam pictures. I've wanted to go to Holland ever since my art history major days long ago, where my area of concentration was Northern European art. Haven't gotten there yet, but now I'm determined!

I enjoyed your photos, Myer. Thanks for sharing them. I agree with you about Brugge; I thought it was wonderful, too. I was there mid-May for only one night -- will have to go back sometime -- definitely didn't have enough time there. Did you climb the stairs in the Belfry? Incredible view from up there!!
