Mmmmm, well as I said it all takes time and there is loads of paperwork to fill out, but you like us will have a place in paradise. Things don't race along here the way they do in LA!

And we know lots of good workers. So keep in touch.

We will have some awesome parties!

russ_in_LA I'm just starting to plan a road trip from Toulouse to Nice for September 2018 and loved reading your trip report. Could you share the names or links to the places you stayed from Ramatuelle through Villefranche? Also when you visit all these little towns is it obvious where to park? I find that the most stressful part of road trips in France and Italy that we've taken. Thanks so much!

Hi Memorybee,

Here is the link to our places in Villefranche which we loved:

https://www.vrbo.com/6892012ha

It has private off-street parking, so no stress finding a spot.

Unfortunately, the listing for the house in Ramatuelle is gone, so they might not be renting it any longer.

We never had problems finding parking in small villages, except for Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, which we ending up skipping. There are usually marked parking lots on the edge of the village.

It has been a joy traveling with you. Many of our favorites along with many new places that I took notes on. Thanks so much for all the details.

Sorry to hear that you were I’ll but it sounds like you were well taken care of at minimal cost. The US should take a longer look at other countries and how they handle medical issues.

Another example: my husband was in a Barbados hospital for 2 days, along with tests, a few years back due to a severe shortness of breath and near drowning. Don’t swim or golf, don’t fly for at least 5 days, and return here before you leave the island to pay your bill. Here’s a good use to fill up our credit cards....not!
The bill was &418 and was reimbursed by our insurance when we got home.
I can’t imagine what it would have been in the states.

Thanks so much, TPAYT! It's been fun recounting our adventure. (Well, perhaps not the urgent care part).

russ_in_LA, although we are late in our enjoyment of your TR, we wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed it! What a 10-week adventure! We enjoyed a much shorter trip to some of the areas you visited in the fall of '16. We're just catching up with ourselves following our Sept.-Oct. trip to Italy. Thanks so much for the interesting TR!

russ_in_LA, loved your report! We lived in LA over 10 years (but now in Seattle) and have a family home in France near the beach (atlantic side. Plus we are considering buying a winter place in Palm Springs! We are going down to PS in January for 2 months to look around there. If you are in town then I would love to connect-maybe talk about owning in France, what you think of PS, and house swapping-we have done that a lot

Anyway, my email is on my profile if you want to connect.

Hi Jeanne,

Nice to hear from you again! Sam and I had dinner at your house in LA before our trip to France 7 years ago. If you recall, we happened to stay in your old building in the Marais, which you recognized from my photos! Yes, we would love to connect with you in Palm Springs. I'll send you an email.

@jpie - Here is a link to my trip report from the last time, just to jog your memory:

@kerouac and TPAYT - I just noticed that you both replied to that report as well. I guess I should post on the France forum more often than every 7 years.

So, almost exactly 4 months after having accepted our offer on a house in the Dordogne, the sellers have finally gotten around to signing the documents to "start" the process. The clock starts now on a mandatory 3 month waiting period to close, so all told this will have been a 7 month process. It's a good thing we weren't planning on being back until June!

I hope it goes through smoothly, russ.

if you complete in March, that'll be in perfect time for a summer Fodors housewarming in June!

Annhig - I hope you mean June 2019, because we have some renovating to do!

StCirq - More delays? I can’t imagine what could possibly get delayed renovating a house in a foreign country, with a less than stellar command of the language, during the summer holidays. ;-)

Better make it September, 2019 to be safe (See StCirq, I'm learning to factor in the delays!)

I’ve just come across your report tonight and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it! I hope you’d consider writing a book in the future detailing your travels and experiences! Your writing style is beautiful and easy to follow. Congrats on the new home purchase, and please keep posting!
