lesslejd,
I think if you have 10 days you could do that breakdown and go to Sevilla too. Do you have your US flights already booked? You could fly into madrid, after 4 days take AVE to Sevilla and then fly to Barcelona and fly from Barcelona back to the US. Or do it viceversa.

amyb - hi, again, thanks for the info - we arrive at about 6pm on the sat, so i'm thinking about jumping a a cab and getting straight down to the Prado - or possibly not!!!
i think that early on tuesday before we go home might be a better bet!
Josele - thanks for the info about the Tintoretto - i looked at the prado web-site and found there's no on-line booking, so i suppose it'll be through the hotel when we get there.

So it turns out I had read your TR before my spain trip earlier this year. I read as many Spain TRs as I could find on Fodors and yours was one of them. I just didn't put 2 and 2 together (your screenname and your other posts). Thanks again.
BTW, now that I'm re-reading this after my trip, I can see that even though my trip was similar to yours (12 days, Barcelona, Granada, Seville, Cordoba, Madrid, Toledo, Segovia), I had rather different takes on places/sights than you. But of course, we're all entitled to our own opinion.
