KarenWoo, our trip involved visiting my husbands family in Central Greece so we spent a little less time on the islands and Nafplio. We did one night in Athens. 3 nights Naxos, 3 on Santorini, 2 nights in Nafplio , 5 nights in Trikala. ( near the famous Meteora) and 1 last night in Athens. I will be posting a little bit about central Greece if you stay tuned. My husband has a family summer home up in the mountains, within driving distance of Trikala.

We did enjoy Akrotiri and had a guide. On our first trip to Santorini Akrotiri was closed due to the tragic roof collapse that killed tourists. We were glad we returned to see it all after it reopened and encourage others to visit.

Btw Deb, that shot in post #15, (i.e. the 5th one down, two after your husband-standing-in-front of the Stardust Gift Shop) depicts a restaurant with bougainvillea down the middle of its outdoors courtyard. There is a light green table on the right, which is associated with 2 pillows, one yellow, one cream. *I've forgotten the name of that eatery, but sometimes the owners' dog can be seen snoozing atop those pillows. Thing is, it is no ordinary dog. In fact, we'd never seen its breed anywhere else.
Karen---maybe check out Nikolas cafe in Fira---best olives that we've ever tasted in Greece.

I am done. The endahksi

After our little tour of the islands, we flew back to Athens, rented a car, and headed to Nafplio for 2 nights. Nafplio was the first capitol after the country gained its independence from Turkey in the late 1820s. The old town is beautiful: old buildings, some historical sites and easy to stroll around. At night the main square, Sygmata square, comes alive with people. We stayed nearby at the Aetoma hotel, a family run guesthouse.

The ruins of the ancient city of Mycenae near Nafplio. I remember seeing this in the history books in high school. I never thought I would see it in person.

The beach right outside of Nafplio. The water was much warmer here than in the islands, maybe because it is on the mainland and protected by some hills.
