Trip Report- Budapest, Amsterdam and Vienna

Thursday 5/3-Friday 5/4 Left JFK at 4:10 PM and met Carol in Frankfurt Airport very early in the AM the following day, Friday. Carol hustled to get the flight but thankfully she made it. We flew to Budapest and the Ritz Carlton Hotel driver picked us up. We checked in and Carol got our room upgraded. We had a corner room looking over the Danube with 3 terraces. We quickly left and walked to the Jewish Quarter. We went into the synagogue and museum and walked the grounds. We walked around the area and bought a bag and shirt at Loyhoys on Klavzal Street and had a quick lunch. We dropped our bags back to the hotel. We shopped behind the hotel on Vaciuta Street. We went to a pastry place Gerboud. Delicious. We walked to the bridge over the Danube which was beautiful. We walked back to the hotel and rested and changed. We walked to Onyx Restaurant. While the food was amazing and presented beautifully, it took 3 hours. It was a little pricey too, $80/pp.
Saturday 5/5 Had breakfast at the hotel. Our hotel is on the Pesce side and we walked over the bridge to the Buddha side. We took the fonicular up to the Buddha castle/palace. Beautiful art work. We walked around the area and had amazing strudel at a small place in an ally way near the church called Retesvar. We walked around and bought bags at Castelium . The bag cost $160. We ended up taking a taxi to the Inner City Market and walked around there. We walked back to the hotel, rested and changed. We had 7:00 dinner reservations at Costes. It was amazing. $65/pp. We took a taxi to Port 7 and boarded the 9:30 pm Legenda boat around the Danube for an hour. It was a beautiful night to see the city all lit up. We saw all 7 bridges.
Sunday 5/6 We took the 7:30 AM train to Vienna which took 2 ˝ hours. We got off at the 2nd Vienna stop but we probably should have gotten off at the 1st stop. We bought a trolly ticket and took the trolly to the Opera House . We walked in and it was beautiful. All tours were booked up . We walked around passing all the stores which were closed because it was Sunday. We went into the St. Stephens Cathedral. We had lunch at an outdoor café Restaurant Schonbrunner Stockl. It was OK but good people watching. We saw the horses at the Spanish Riding School. We had coffee at an outdoor café and watched all the horse drawn carriages like Central Park. We passed Mozarts house. We passed the Sisi Museum. We walked into the Jewish Museum Gift Shop. We then took the U4 subway to Schonbrunn. It took us forever to purchase the subway tickets and they never even collected it. When we got there and determined it was 400 acres so we decided to take the 50 minute trolly ride around. We got a taste of the property. We saw the grounds and beautiful fountains and beautiful gardens. We ate lunch in the property at an outdoor café near one of the exits at Scvhumber Stockl. We had weiner schnitzel and mouth watering asparagus. Really good lunch. We left after lunch to the U4 to the U1 and went to the other train station at 5:30. We boarded and 2 ˝ hours later we were back in Budapest at 9:00. We went back to the hotel and went to bed early. They sent Carol the famous Ritz Carlton Royal Chocolate Cake which she devoured. She gave it a big thumbs up. In fact, we stopped at every chocolate and pastry shop we passed the entire trip!
Monday 5/7 After breakfast we walked to the river and went to Dock 8A to get our private charter boat Dunarama with 2 Captains. We rode up the Danube River to the bend about 2 hours at the bend is Visergred Castle which is the combination of Czecks, Hungarian and Stockholm. We went further and saw the Basilica at Esztergom. We then headed back and stopped at an artist community Szentodia Island. We ate lunch at Restaurant Aranysarghk-Golden Dragon. We both had beef goulash in a bread basket. We walked around the small quaint community. We left there at 4:00 and got back to the dock at 5:00. We rested and changed and walked to Rezkakas Restaurant which was pretty good.
Tuesday 5/8 Had breakfast at the hotel and took a taxi to the airport. We spent our left over money and bought paprika gifts and chocolate. We arrived after a 2 hour flight and took a taxi to the Pulitzer Hotel. The taxi was a Tesla!!We got a room looking over the canal. Beautiful hotel in a great location. We went directly to the Coffee House, Amnesia. Crazy!!!Then we walked to the Van Gogh Museum and saw an exhibit Van Gogh-Japan, as we had 5:30 tickets. On the way we went shopping. We then went to dinner at Rijks Museum. It was really good. We walked back to the hotel and relaxed with all our goodies.
Wednesday 5/9 Went to the Business District and walked through Primark, but we didn’t find anything. We kept walking back to the hotel and ended up at the Amnesia Coffee House again. We talked to this guy from NJ who gave us the names of all the good coffee shops to go to. We then walked to the Flower Market. And then to the Bags and Purses Museum. We then went to a new coffee shop, Bjormson. And then we ate at Schildes Restauarnt. We walked back and bought some shoes along the way at Hesten Van Eeghenn. We went back to the hotel and rested and took the hotel boat around the canals from 7:00-8:30. After we ate dinner at Incanto.
Thursday 5/10 We first went to the Anne Frank Museum for our 9:30 tickets. After we went to the Cheese Museum, bought some cheese, and went to the Tulip Museum. We went back to the hotel and dropped off our things and walked around a little more. We took a taxi to the airport and departed to our home airports. Great trip!!!
