Trieste to Zurich by train, any suggestions please?
Hi,
We are an active couple in our late 50s traveling through Italy & Croatia for 3 weeks in June/July.
We would appreciate any help or suggestions for train travel from northern Croatia or Trieste to Muri Switzerland (about an hour from Zurich)
We have a hotel room booked there for July 5th.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks
Wilkie

Hi wilkie,
You can get all the information about this trip using the Swiss rail site at
www.rail.ch
Just use "Trieste Central" as your departure point and "Muri AG" as your destination.
It looks like it'll be a loong trip, about 9.30, with four or five changes of train.
Have fun as you plan!

Swandav2000, I tried the web page, but it asked for a departure time & after trying several it said no trains were available, any idea what I am doing wrong?
Also how do I input Brig or Zermatt to see the route?
Thanks

When I made that trip I was coming from Venice and had to make a stopover in Milan even though the entrance point was a lot closer to Venice... also the Swiss trains stop running in the evening and I had to make an unexpected stopover in that small border town in Italy. So my suggestion would be to take a fast train between Venice and Milan if you can afford it, the time you save will be worthwhile.
The first day I would travel as much as I can and get close to Jungfraujoch, spend the night and the next morning visit it before continuing on to Zurich... Jungfraujoch is an expensive mountain/tourist attraction which lets you go all the way up to the "top of europe" I thought it was pretty cool dunno if that's something you are interested in. My other suggestion is to stop over in Luzern which is a town situated on a lake with mountains in the background its very beautiful and not too far from Zurich. Switzerland is very scenic so routing yourself to include a portion of it on your way up would be a good way to see the country.
P.S. you can check trenitalia (with an earlier date if you have to) for the trip between Trieste and the border town above Milan. and then the swiss railway site for the rest of your journey to get time estimates.
