Travelling to the Alps from Geneva
Hi guys
We are travelling into Geneva on the 6th of October this year and want to spend 5 or 6 nights down in the Alps
Ive heard that Zermatt is awesome with the Matterhorn. We probably arent looking to do any skiing, but a lot of hikes/walks would be nice.
Has anyone got any ideas on good Swiss Alps locations that are easy to get to from Geneva ?
Thanks
Neil Kerkham

Zermatt is great and from Geneva not thaaaat far away... Its just wonderfull up there and with its car free environement, you realy get that mountain-feeling...
Gstaad too, is beautiful, but very expensive... its next to St. Moritz, the place where the jet set goes, and along it go the prices...
Zermatt is very touristic too, but "just" expensive...

Hi Neil_Kerkham,
I love Luzern; I love its location where the mountains spill right into the lakes! The scenery is gorgeous, and you can spend your time hiking the nearby mountains (Pilatus, Rigi, Titlis, etc), cruising the lakes, and visiting lakeside villages.
But Luzern is a full city, and the Alps are still a small jounney away. I personally prefer small places, the smaller the better, and the closest to the mountains if I'm going for a mountain fix.
If you're willing to go as far as Luzern, why not head to some car-free villages that sit up in the mountains, such as Wengen or Mürren in the Berner Oberland?
Some sites for your research:
