Traveling with jewelry

When I go on short business trips, I usually put my nice (but costume) necklaces and earrings in a common ziplock bag. What else do you all use when traveling to keep necklaces & earrings from tangling that is not very bulky?

Hi ST,

You can get little, itty bitty, teeny weeny zip bags to put in your in big zip bag.

They don't have yellow polka dots, though.

Take a piece of plastic or fabric - put a necklace length-wise and roll up like a shtrudel. This goes into a ziplock.

I thought of that, but ooohhhh how pedestrian (wink). I'm sure I could spend a bundle at the Container Store for some nifty device though.

I like to wear my good stuff, if not when I travel, when can I wear it? I take a few nice pieces, and keep what I am not wearing in my backpack,or locked in a safe at the hotel, or cruise boat. Never wear lots when in certain areas of the world, but do put it on when we dine, etc. Have a small padded bag with hooks, and holes for ear rings.

I have a soft fabric pouch which rolls up upon it self. It has a zip section for earrings, and a press stud loop to secure necklaces before rolling the pouch up.

Oh, you want to travel in style, not just to save space and weight Check out Baggallini jewelry pouches, they look great, have inside pockets and the price is under $15.

Check this out, on the left side, the 3rd from the top:

hi sandi_travelnut,

I have this long gift box a good necklace came in years ago. I have used it for many years since. On one side is the cotton that lined the box, on the other side I placed another long strip so my necklaces don't slip or get damaged. On the outside two ponytail binders hold everything in place. It is small and takes up very little room.

Cost - zero.

Ha, pretty high tech, huh????

Truth be told though, lately I have just kept it more simple and wear one necklace and keep the same studs in my ears for the entire trip. I seem to go in phases between wanting to keep it simple or wanting to have jewelry with me. Simplicity seems to have won the race in recent months.

Happy traveling.

You know those little lipstick cases you get for free with the Lancome periodic promotions, or you can buy them, great for earrings. Also you can thread your necklace through a straw cut to size and it keeps it from getting tangled up and packs very compactly.
