Traveler's century club- for those who have been to 75 countries or more!

I just realized my previous title wasn't too eye-catching. I'm really curious as to whether or not we have anyone in our midst who qualifies:

Message: I'm sure I won't qualify for about 40 years or so, but so many of you are so well-traveled that you may qualify:

travelerscenturyclub.org

It's a club of some sort where to join you have had to travel to 100 or more of what they designate are countries. With my recent Sicily trip I am only up to 9 "countries."

Message: Interesting website! I checked the list of countries, and find by their definition, I have been to 19 countries. They allow you to list a country even if you have only had a brief stop--say a plane refueling, or a change of planes. By that definition, I have "visited" Ireland, South Korea, China, and Singapore--without ever stepping outside their airports.

Surely there must be some posters who have reached or are approaching the 100 mark? Come on, folks, count 'em up and post your totals here!

Message: What a great club! Even better because I'm no where close to being able to join yet (although I did find an article that says that people who have traveled to 75 countries may join as aspiring members - not that this puts me significantly closer!).

Am I the only one who can't access their site, though? Perhaps there is some filter prohibiting people who've traveled to fewer than 40 countries, because I can't pull up either site, the one listed above or another URL I found, www.travel-cent-club.org.

I did find a site with an article that lists their list of countries as of 1996:

http://www.galenfrysinger.com/~galen/travelers.htm

I'm just holding out hope that they're still considering Hong Kong and Macao "countries", which will really help my score!

Good grief! I have visited 32 countries without even realising it, I have never bothered to count them up. Still got so many places to see though and so little time!

I found this club about 3 years ago, and although I have a LONG way to go, it is one of my life's goals to be able to join. Thanks for telling others about it, though!

Happy travels,
Karen

For some reason, I still can't access the site, even from home which is a different ISP. Must be one of those absolutely randomly blocked websites in China (perhaps because they DO count Hong Kong and Macau as separate countries!!).

I was pretty enthusiastic before, thinking about how quickly I'd be able to join this fabulous club, since we travel "so often". Then I thought that our 2 - 3 trips per year, which sound like a lot in general, would mean that we're about FORTY YEARS from joining!! Oh, well, it's good to have long-range plans!

(If you count HK and Macau, I'm at 17 if you count actual visits, 19 if you count airports.)

Ugh...I'm only at 39.
But all 39 have been actual visits..not just plane changes!
I guess that's something.

I think a way to qualify quicker is to do lots of cruising! Especially those Caribbean ones where you stop at like 8 islands. Italy's a place to rack up a few- Italy itself, Vatican City, Sardinia and Sicily.

I was telling some friends about this (and the jerks have over 30!), and we thought of 2 more that will raise my score and probably a lot of other Fodorites . . . Monaco and Vatican City!

I checked their list and they both count. So, I'm at 19 now, not including airport stops . . . only 56 to go until provisional status . . .
