We will have 9 days in July 2006 and need advice. We have a 19,16&13 year old and traveled with them in Europe in 2004. We have been to Rome,& Paris and traveled by car through Austria to Switzerland. They loved the Colisseum and Forum, the Salzburg saltmines, Neuschwanstein, and the trip up to Mt. Piltus in Lucerne. We want to go to one country. We are considering Greece, Scotland, Ireland, or Northern Italy. We are afraid Greece would be too hot and not active enough, and that Scotland and Ireland would be too soggy and not enough variety for the kids.Any comments or suggestions would be very appreciated. We have to go in July and have to book frequent flyer airfare soon. Thanks

Speaking from experience, and from many other similar experiences noted here - - the single most important tip is to get them involved in picking the destinations, or at least voicing their opinions on what appeals to them most. Tens may not have a good sense of the logistics of connecting point A to B to C - - but if you get their faces into some books, and find out what are their oohs and aahs - - then you can get good advice from "us" here.

I have only been to Greece once (as a teen myself, in 1969 - - in July, as a matter of fact), and I have no recollection of it being oppressively hot, though this is just one anecdote (ancient) recollection.

The opportunity to be on the water means that it can be perfect for summer weather.

Coral - How about the Dolomites in northern Italy? Or Lake Garda? Or both ...

Lots of activities there, from mountain-biking to windsailing, paragliding to rafting ... and most other sports you can think of.

Have you considered visiting Denmark!? I went to the university there, and lived there for six months. It is a fantastic country, with loads of things for kids. The Tivoli gardens are magic, and there are great living history museums, castles, and beaches. I don't know why Americans tend to ignore the Scandinavian countries in their travel plans.
