Travelgirl,
I got incredibly lucky and actually found the travel guide info! The guide is:HARUN YONUGUT. His phone number in Istanbul is: +90-212-638-07-95-96. His e-mail address is: [email protected]. Oh, and here's yet another phone number for him, I think! It reads, Gsm:+90-542-611-62-08. Probably his cell?
We used him for a private tour of Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi (SP??) Palace, and the underwater cistern. He was recommended by the front desk of our hotel, SEVEN HILLS, in Sultanahmet.
We really enjoyed our time with Harun and thought he was excellent. Just so you know, he is licensed by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, and has been in the tour guiding business for several years.
The only downside ( and as far as I can tell, this may be a common problem!) he insisted on a stop at his "cousin's" carpet shop. Actually, we enjoyed the mint tea and the lesson in the different types of weaves, etc., but if your time is limited, you might want to politely decline.
