Travel Insurance suggestions:

Getting older, feeling more vulnerable. Would like travel insurance now that includes medical emergency care (in private hospitals) and evacuation. Have been checking Access America and TravelGuard. AA has paid claims well in the past for cancelled trips but doesn't offer enough for med'l evacuation. Any recommends or experiences that would help?

You might want to look at www.highwaytohealth.com
I don't have any experience with them nor do I know anything about them beyond what's on their web site. They do, however, have several travel medical plans. Anybody know anything more about them? Anybody ever buy one of their plans or make any claims with them?

Lilly,
Access America does offer medical evacuation up to $50,000. Buying thru Orbitz-on their website- is about half the price than going directly to Access America. I don't know if you have to buy your airline ticket from Orbitz, but after purchasing a ticket from them, you have a link to Access America.
AAA does sell Access America, but you must buy your airline ticket from them, even thou you belong to AAA.

Lilly--
Travel Guard can be bought from ANY travel agency--even if you did NOT purchase your ticket or tour thru the agency-'
I have used them for years and they do offer medical evacuation...BUT you MUST purchase your trip cancellation /interuption insurance no more than 7 days after your deposit on trip is sent in--OTHERWISE pre-existing is NOT covered.

TravelEx offers a combo medical evacuation/trip cancellation policy. The charge is based on how much money you want to cover for the cancellation part of the policy.

I recently bought a $38 policy that includes $50,000 in evacuation expenses, and $500 in cancellation expenses. To cover pre-existing medical conditions, the policy must be bought within 10 days of making the first trip-related purchase.
The Web site is http://www.travelex-insurance.com/faqs.asp

Another company is Travelers Emergency Network (http://www.tenweb.com/). They specialize in medical evacuation insurance.
