It depends on what is covered, and what the maximum coverage would be.
ie. trip cancellation, trip delay, lost baggage, medical evacuation, medical expenses for treatment, etc.

The $26 sounds like it only covers the air ticket. That's it. But if you've prepaid for hotels, cars, tours at your destination, you should consider covering those; also do you need medical or evacuation coverage should there be an accident. Check:

You really shouldn't purchase from the company you are booking with. You should buy the insurance independently. If something happens to the company that you booked your travel with then you won't be able to collect. If you want default coverage I believe Travel Guard is the only company that covers it.

I doubt the website is selling their own insurance, rather working with an insurance company that supplies such insurance.
As to default, besides Travel Guard, there are others that do cover default, but only for certain companies - airlines, hotel chains, cruise lines, car rentals, etc. - even Travel Guard doesn't cover every Mom & Pop company.
So it's important to read the fine print in anything you purchase, or ask specific questions to a live operator.

Sandi - Many tour/travel companies sell travel insurance and you pay them not the insurance company. They are marking up the insurance and getting a percentage for their profit. If you purchase from a travel/tour company you are assuming they are sending your money to the insurance company. A few years ago Travel Guard was mentioned on tv by Peter Greenberg as the only company at that time providing default insurance. After 9/11 more companies started providing it after so many travel businesses went under and they realised many people now wanted that type of coverage. Peter also warned against buying from the travel/tour company and gave info on many different travel insurance companies and coverage.
