travel from Zurich to Sorrento Italy
We are travelling to Amalfi with our 80 yr old mum from Zurich.
The train takes 9 hours to Naples.....flying would include train trips of 3 hours ,check-in at air port,2 hour flight, handling luggage, fly to Naples & travel to Naples Main Rail Station...
would this perhaps be 2 hours less in time
would the scenery justify the train & no changes, , & then how the best way to get to Sorento...bus,train or ferry

But, seriously folks......
Considering the number of transfers required to go by plane, I would take the train even if it weren't scenic.
If you check the schedules at www.bahn.de you will find a map of the route.
You are aware that you will have to change trains in Milan?
The best way to get from Naples Centrale is by private limo - about 90E for the three of you.
From NAP airport, there is bus service to Sorrento - http://www.curreriviaggi.it/
Enjoy your visit.

Frankly if it were me I would rent a car and drive. That way you have control over every aspect of the trip - and nobody will be stressed or too tired - by the rigors (and potential waits/problems) of public transit.
