As someone who has never seen snow before I doubt he's ready for Chamonix, sounds like he just wants to see/experience snow, not downhill ski. Norway sounds amazing any time of year, I've never been but was in Sweden in the early winter and really enjoyed it. Have fun!

Norway is wonderful -- but perhaps surprisingly expensive to someone from Oz. And Laocker is right -- winter may not be the best time to visit - weather and VERY short days among other reasons.


krs24 -- you are set on Norway -- is it because of photos of the gorgeous scenery? Those were most likely taken in Summer.

I want to experience the snow and I don't want to see sunshine I want snow and a lot of it, I live in Australia I don't need to experience the "warmth" I live in 40 celcius I want the cold and really cold, jenyc25 you are spot on that is exactly what I want

Winter in Norway is beautiful actually. Probably people living there become quite fed up with the darkness but to visit for a short period, for someone looking for a wintery experience, it's pretty great. The landscapes are amazing with the snow, the ky lights/colors during the long sunrises and sunsets are so beautiful and delicate, and if in the right area you can see the Northern Lights.
You can aim to go North, for instance Lofoten islands (if you are OK to rent a car and drive in winter conditions - carefully), or to Tromsø for a more "city" vibe and organized activities (for a cost but you say cost is not an issue). I would advise aiming for end February/early March. You will have plenty of snow at that time, and the days are getting longer to enjoy sightseeing in daylight, but still long enough nights for Northern Lights.
I have travelled to Norway in winter several times, mostly with Hurtigruten (freight/passenger ship that sails along the coast of Norway) and also with short stays in Lofoten islands. Sarnia nice travel report, but I must admit I never understood people's fascination with the Northern Lights. If I want to see a neon light show, I can go to the nightclub.
