Travel between Prague Vienna & Budapest

What is the best way to travel between Prague and Vienna, and then Vienna and Budapest? I'm planning to go in October. Within Europe I've usually travelled by train, but I've never been to these countries and am not sure which option is best. I suppose I'd like to be cost conscious, but I don't want to waste excessive time either.

Thanks in advance.

Travel between Vienna and Budapest is easy via train. The trip takes approx. 3 hours and the cost ( for a senior) is #43.00.
Do a search on European trains and you will get all sorta of info.
Have a great trip.

We did these cities last year & took the train to/from each city. Very easy to do. I don't suggest driving, although we usually DO rent a car. A number of posts I read in doing the research suggested the train over the car.

I'm doing the same trip at the end of Sept for the first time, and have found a Door-to-Door shuttle service between Vienna and Budapest. It picks you up at your hotel and leaves Vienna at 8:30am and gets to Budapest about 3 hours later (depending on traffic and border time) and drops you off at your next hotel. The service is e32 for Adults one way, but it only runs every second day and as luck would have it, it's not running the day I need to travel!! Check it out at

Have a great time!

From Prague to Vienna, go by train.

From Vienna to Budapest, if the weather seems good, you can go by rapid boat down the Danube. The trip is four hours and might be more interesting than the train considering the fall foliage and the fact that you can later remember doing this road-less-traveled activity.

My husband and I are also looking for a shuttle that will take us from our hotel in Vienna to our hotel in Budapest. Like Mitchy mee we found a shuttle(called Mitch's Tours) that goes on alternate days for 32 euro each. Unfortunately, it does not go on the day we are going. Does anyone know of another shuttle? We are traveling on September 30 - is anyone else traveling that day who would like to share hiring a driver?
