Hi,

We are now in sicily. Does anyone have any thoughts on Trapani-Marsala area places to stay that you enjoyed? We are in Siracusa now and I will post report when we return.

Hi Bonnie
I am in the process of planning my trip to Sicily for 2 wks. We leave on the 6th of May. After much research I am planning on staying at Baglio Spano about 20 min east of Marsala 2 km from the coast. It is a restored villa on a vineyard and apparently it is quite charming and clean, and the host Federico Montalo is a great chef and offers dinners on the estate. Good reviews on trip advisor looks nice from the website www.bagliospano.com check it out if you are still looking for a spot.

Looking foward to reading your trip report, we will be staying at Casa Talia in Modica and Mandranova near Agrigento, and I am curious if you ended up at either. I am also curious to know where you ended up staying before Siracusa I am looking for a place outside of Catania towards Taormina and considering Palazzo Giovanni near Acireale.

Enjoy your trip

Hi-
I'm very sorry I missed this thread when you originally posted the question.

I'm probably too late, but my Mom and I stayed at Baglio Fontana in 2003. We were the only guests the night we were there. The places was lovely.
Here's a link to pictures and my travelogue for that day:
http://www.wired2theworld.com/sicily2003part6PM.html

At the time, there were no hotels inside the center of Marsala. Not one, according to the tourist office. Hopefully things have changed by now, because the place we stayed, the Hotel President, was awful.

Hope you found some place fabulous!

I have not been to the area for years so can't offer hotel names, but I would recommend staying in Erice if possible. A magical spot.

thanks all. we ended up staying at baglio san vincenze, which is a wine estate high on a hill overlooking the menfi area. it was great!!!! and good location to stay. we then stayed in erice for one night. my husband liked it after the tourists left at night, but I would have had a look at the views and moved on myself. I really liked the west coast -- mazara, mozia and egadi.

I will try to post a trip report, but in addition to daily routine, my daughter is graduating med school and moving to Boston, another daughter in moving across town in Manhattan and I am doing another last minute trip to somewhere in between all of this, maybe to Morocco, but not sure. I have had a series of last minute trips this year that have been great successes thanks to wonderful Foderites!
