transportation from Paddington to Bloomsbury

I was wondering if anyone has an idea as to the cost from Paddington station to the Bloomsbury area (close to the British Museam).

I was also thinking of doing the tube from Paddington - how are the stations there and at Tottenham Court? I will have luggage, and don't really want to do a ton of steps.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Monica

Hi Monica - I'd get a cab if I were you the cost should be about GBP10 and you'll save yourself a lot of hassle on the tube with suitcases etc. There are no lifts (elevators) at Paddington or Tottenham Court Road stations.

Definitely get a cab. Even when you get to Tottenham Court Rd tube station, it's still quite a hike to the Bloomsbury area if you have luggage. A cab will be worth every penny.

Oh yes, and you'd have to change at Oxford Circus - and that's a lot of corridors and staircases.

If you want to save money, the bus would be easier than the tube. The no 7 goes from Paddington to the British Museum, but if you can afford it, a cab is still the best bet.

HTH

Anna

Anna - thanks for that info too. Do you happen to know which tube station is the closest to the Country Inn and Suites hotel (110 Great Russell St)?

Thanks,
Monica

Monica

If there is one thing I have learned in traveling - ALWAYS spring for the cab when you have luggage. You will hate life if you don't (unless you literally can pack with one carryon and that's it).

I've spent in excess of 100 bucks (or 70 pounds, or 700FF, or whatever) in order to not have to lug luggage. You don't want to start or end a trip tired, jetlagged, and sweaty from climbing steps with your stuff - even if it's winter time - you are wearing a heavy coat - trust me trying to handle luggage on public transport is not fun..

I did it once or twice, never gonna do it again. look at it as a sunk cost in your trip & forget about it.

my .02

Monica, Tottenham Court tube station is definitely closest, perhaps 200 metres away.

I'm with Karen, there is no way on this earth I'd sclepp luggage on and off the tube and up and down stairs when there are taxi's around! Why start off a vacation like a pack mule? Unless you have one tiny piece of luggage (I mean tiny) it is not a practical and/or smart thing to do, particularly with jet lag.
If there is more then one of you I'd spring for a driver pick up service at Heathrow - that's what we do. By the time you take the Heathrow Express into Paddington and then a taxi you could have been delivered door to door with no hassle. Taxi queues (lines) can be very long at Paddington too.
