An apparently simple question.>

Apparently not so simple as you think!

The question is simple and the answer is simple too:
take the train and change at Ventimiglia in all cases

and at Milan if you want to travel rapidly and change only twice,
or
at Sestri Levante resp La Spezia if you want to travel cheaply and change only twice,
or
at any other station (Genoa, 5Terre, Pisa) if you want to change 3times or more.

I'm not seeing a train Nice/Milan without changes on the French site.>

I have not been able to track one down on www.bahn.de/en either - will try trenitalia.com as the time gets near.

Can Thomas Cook - brand new edition - be wrong - Man in Seat 61 I think had something to do with the new recurring printed book.

The Russian train runs one night a week however and does it, being a Russian train, take folks for such short hops?

But yes something I would do (if they honored railpasses!).

If you want to shell out 350 euros for a Nice to Verona night train - according to the price on the link neckervd gave - well you could fly Nice to Paris and Paris to Florence for that price perhaps!
