It depends on the type and purpose of your letter. If it is a straightforward request for information or hotel reservations, Babelfish might well suffice, but if it is at all complicated or needs any sort of nuance, I would not trust it to any computer program. Try your local high school or college French teachers, and be prepared to pay for their services. Good translation is not easy.
