I've flown into LCY often and it's always been fast, maybe 5 minutes, to get through passport control. And I nearly always arrive in the morning on a weekday.

Take the DLR as Janisj says - that is the fastest route:
Docklands light rail to Canning Town, Jubilee tube line to Baker Street, Bakerloo Line to Paddington, Heathrow Express to LHR is by far the fastest route. But it is pretty complicated and quite a slog w/ steps and long walks.

It shouldn't take you more than an hour to get to Paddington, and then board a train. 90 minutes from LCY to LHR is possible.

But you are flying intercontinental, and have to go through security at LHR. You only have 1,5 hours if all goes according to plan with the LCY/LHR connection. I would only attempt this with hand luggage and boarding pass already printed out or on your phone.

You could take a car service - but I very much doubt if it will be faster. My mom took a car from Notting Hill to LCY last week, middle of the day. It took 2 hours.

<<I would not assume lighter traffic at all through London and certainly would not depend on it.>> There is no assumption, more like hoping this could be the case. I've done the taxi trip couple of times and have driven the route myself, I did not go thru London, but on the M25. Public transport might indeed be better.

I would not assume the OP can change the BLL-LON flight to previous evening without having to pay additional.

The OP would have checked in online already for the flight departing LHR, so it would be bag drop only which can take a long time as well as security lines.

<The OP would have checked in online already for the flight departing LHR, so it would be bag drop only which can take a long time as well as security lines.>

not trying to be argumentative, but that still means waiting for the luggage at City airport, and still lining up for the bag to be tagged at LHR.

M25 versus going through London. I live in basically the same area as LCY and have taken the route to LHR literally many dozens of times, and it is NEVER predictable . The taxi/limo drivers always suggest going through London, as they can explore other routes if they encounter problems. M25: As Janis said, it CAN be a parking lot, there is no way to predict it, and once you are on it, there are few ways out.

Personally, I NEVER hope for the Best, I PLAN for the WORST.

regards ... Ger

Hi Everybody,
It has all been booked as one flight ticket. I we do not show up in Billund (the Airport in Denmark) airport our flight tickets will be cancelled, as we do not begin our journey as expected.
Trust me, I have tried all I could to see if we could change the time of our flight or fly into Heathrow Airport from the very beginning, but we cannot!. I am very frustrated and disappointed that Cathy makes it possible for us to buy these tickets. They said that it is my own fault, as I did not pay attention when we booked these tickets. They also informed me, that it is possible to make this trip in time.
Luckily, we have no problem on our trip back home, as we will be landing in Heathrow Airport and flying to Billund Airport.
I totally agree that our situation is bad, but we have to make it, so if we should try to make it in time, what would the best solution be?

LCY –Canning Town. From Canning Town we must catch the Jubilee line to Barker Street Station then catch the Bakerloo Line to Paddington Station and then go with the HEX (Heathrow Express). ???

Thanks for your kind help.

I think LCY-Canning Town-Baker Street-Paddington HEX is really your best bet. Book HEX tickets in advance. Get an Oyster card at LCY from one of the machines if you don't have one already.

Change at Canning Town to Jubilee line is easy. Don't know how long the walk is at Baker Street, but usually it's well signposted.
Check www.tfl.gov.uk in advance to check for any problems on the line.

Alternative route would be LCY - BANK - change to Central Line - Queensway and grab a taxi there to Paddington which is very close. Only the walk at Bank is quite long, several steps. You can continue on the central line to Notting Hill Gate and change there for circle/distric line to Paddington, but the Circle Line can be very slow and infrequent. Queensway is 5 minutes by cab (10 minutes walk) to Paddington.

The first option will be faster.

Best to have handluggage only if you can.

Check the Citymapper app for London. It says 42 minutes LCY to Paddington. It gives clear directions - very handy.

Good luck!

I would contact them via facebook and twitter. I have found that traditional customer service departments are generally useless but once you get on social media the company will move mountains to make you happy.

I tried changing a connection with BA recently - which I thought was too close. They said it wasn't possible without cancelling my entire trip and rebooking everything for 5 people at great cost. And it would be fine, we would make the connection easily.... We didn't.

" Get an Oyster card at LCY from one of the machines if you don't have one already."

If you're Swedish, what's the point?

You MUST have at least one contactless payment card. This will almost certainly mean your card will give you access to Tube platforms IN EXACTLY THE SAME WAY as Oyster.

Check at https://tfl.gov.uk/fares-and-payment...On-this-page-1

You are right flanner - contactless is much easier.
Just get a ticket for HEX in advance.

Beware that at LCY the check-in point is on the wall on your left, a few metres before the escalator. You must touch in there. It's easy to miss it.

Hi again,
I'm so thankful for your help and good advices.

I have listened to what you said, except for only carry on hand luggage, as we will be traveling for 2,5 weeks. Hand luggage is only 6kg. per person, which is nothing :/

Today I have booked 2 one way tickets for HEX. We have decided to go for this option: LCY-Canning Town-Baker Street-Paddington HEX.
One question, now when we choose above option, do we still have to catch the DLR saying " BANK" ?? ??? Maybe my question is stupid, but I have only been to London once and I'm not well known in this city.

I have two Oyster cards now both with credit on, and luckilly I do have a Master Card and a ViSA Card (both contactless). Good idea checking https://tfl.gov.uk. We will definitely do this.

Let's just says that our first choice for transportation won't be an option because of construction issue etc. What would you recommend our option 2 to be then ??? I guess it will be good for us to have a back up plan in mind...

Thanks a lot

No you can catch either the Bank or Stratford International trains. They both go to Canning Town...although the bank line has an escalator down to the jubilee line. The Stratford line you need to walk down some stairs and then up to the jubilee line.

What is the date of your travel?

You just need to get the DLR that is NOT going in the direction of Woolrich Arsenal. Regardless of whether the train says it's going to Bank or Tower Gateway or other, it will go to Canning Town and that's where you make the change to the Jubilee.

There are no planned works that day (they are almost always on weekends) so you shouldn't have construction as an issue.

Good news! Roll on Crossrail - in a couple of years it will be a much shorter journey.

Without any stress? I was stressed just reading what you were attempting. Was it very tight? Were your flights on time?
