Tram from newhaven to Edinburgh

My NCL cruise stops in Newhaven Scotland. I have read there is a tram at the port to take you into Edinburgh.

Can anyone offer any information on the ease of using this to get to Edinburgh or should I plan on taking a ship excursion? We are mobile and very comfortable using local transportation in Europe.

Thanks for your advice.

Newhaven is IN Edinburgh. Either -- the tram - super easy and a 5 -r 7 minute walk from where your ship docks, or a taxi, super easy, or a bus also super easy but will take just a bit longer up into central Edinburgh.

IMO there is no reason at all to take a ship's excursion when visiting Edinburgh.

Edit: Meant to add - the Royal Yacht Britannia is berthed in Newhaven and well worth a visit.
