Trains in Spain
Has anyone found a cheap and convenient way to buy multiple train tickets in Spain? Not the super-fast AVEs but local slow trains. I am looking at 2 weeks minimum all over the country. Tried the usual suspects (Seat 61, Rail Europe, Trainline) but can't seem to find anything. 'Slow Trains Around Spain' is entertaining but doesn't mention ticket-buying. We had a Deutschland ticket in Germany last year and it was wonderful. Too much to hope for something similar in Spain??

Local slow trains do not normally need any reservations. They are, in many cases, commuter trains, you simply buy the ticket (or get a train pass) and get on the train. And the train companies (public) are in many cases different per region, so choose the region first and then check who´s running on those train routes. For example, in the Basque Country it´s Euskotren, although we also have RENFE. In Catalonia they have RENFE, Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat and Rodalies. In Asturias, Cantabria and Galicia it´s FEVE.

Thank you Mikelg. Do you have any more info on train passes? We had a long and painful experience in Madrid recently trying to buy on-the-spot tickets for Toledo. Nearly one hour waiting then a surly and hostile staff member. Don't want to go through that again. From what I have read train passes are complicated. Maybe you can point me in the right direction?
