Trains from Milan to Como

I am landing at Malpensa airport. Want to take a train to Como. Where do I catch the train? Is there a station at or near the airport, or do I have to take a taxi into Milan and go to the train station there?

If you take the Malpensa Express train (15,000 lire) from the airport direct into Milan, it stops at the Cadorna train station. Trains for Como leave every hour or so from Cadorna (just buy your ticket at the ticket counter once you get in there). Don't take a taxi unless you enjoy wasting a lot of money.

(Actually, it's possible to save a little more by stopping at one of the 2 stops on the way into Milan and switching to the outgoing train for Como - but I'd recommend just taking the ride all the way in).

Finally, as another alternative, I know there are buses which run direct from Malpensa to Como if you want to go that route. Enquire at the airport to see where they leave from, since I didn't personally take this option.

Thank you. Very helpful. Next question: When I get to Como, how do I get to Bellagio, where I am staying at the Hotel Belvedere. Is it now time for a taxi, or is there a better way?

When you get to Como by train, you can take a local bus to Bellagio. From the stop in Bellagio, your hotel is very close and within walking distance. The bus ride is really scenic, stops right in front of the train station and takes about 45 minutes.

Or, you can take a quick taxi ride to the ferry dock of Como and take a ferry to Bellagio. The hotel will be close to the ferry dock too.
Ellen

I thought to get to Bellagio you took the train to Varenna and then the ferry from there to Bellagio? That's what we did, anyway.

The train is 2 hours to Varenna and requires a change. Take the boat from Como to Bellagio. 1 hour. Great ride.
