Train travel Zermatt to Milan
I am so confused.. I am booking train travel from Zermatt to Milan. I will have a saver pass for Switzerland - Does anyone know how to book this so that the pass is applied to the ticket? Or is it? When I try to book that route I am getting a price of 238CHF and does not ask if I already have a pass.
Thank you!!
Thank you!!

Without a pass, just book Zermatt to Milan at www.sbb.ch.
With a pass, use the pass for Zermatt to Brig, and buy a Brig-Milan ticket at www.sbb.ch.
There are cheap fares from around 19 euros Brig-Milan if you pre-book.
No reservation is required for travel within Switzerland, it IS required within Italy, but this will automatically be included when you buy the Brig-Milan ticket.

www.sbb.ch is your site to visit matey. Rail Passes are valid for Swiss train travel, plus you dont have to pay for seating reservations.
FYI when your in italy www.trenitalia. Seating Reservations cost between €7-10 per trip.

Swiss passes have been significantly cheaper if bought in North America than for the same exact pass in Switzerland - so check both sources as this can change. Check www.swisstravelsystem.com for prices in Swiss francs (add about 3% for what most credit cards seem to charge for foreign transactions) and also check American sources such as www.budgeteuropetravel.com or www.ricksteves.com or www.raileurope.com - also check on mailing fees as though passes must in the U.S. at least always be sold at the same price mailing and handling fees can be added on.
then in Zermatt or other Swiss station show your pass and explain you only want a ticket from the Swiss border to Milan - or like above post says try to get online discounts at www.sbb.ch - Swiss Federal Railways site.

Man in seat 61 is correct saying above. If you take a direct EC train Brig to Milan, your pass is not valid for that part at all. You can make it valid until the boarder station Domodossola only if you change the train there (Swiss train to Domodossola and from there a Italian train to Milan.). That's what Swiss Railway Info staff old me the other day. There is no point doing it, it takes too much time.

Isselle (sp?) I believe is technically the border point Switzerland and Italy - technically I believe Domodossola is not the official border point but since the train does not stop between Brig and Domodossola (largely in the Simplon Train Tunnen) Domodossola is the effective border point like Brig in the other direction.

The part Brig-Domodossola is a part of the Swiss Travel System since Domodossola is the junction for the Centovalli line - which is the direct connection between Ticino and Wallis. For this reason, it is administrated via Swiss ticketing system and not the Italian one although it passes through Italy. And all lines considered "public transportation" within the Swiss Travel system are covered by the Swiss Pass.
From Domodossola on you will need an Italian ticket. Simply buy it online from www.trenitalia.com, or from the counter at Zermatt.

Unfortunately the entire trip is not covered with your Swiss pass. The pass only covers travel for within the country of Switzerland. Hop onto the train at Zermatt, no reservation required. Get off at Domodossola. Also don’t forget to purchase your ticket asap from www.trenitalia.com to get the cheapest.

altamiro - yes I should have rememberd that because I have done just that with a Swiss Pass - gone from Brig to Domodossola and changed to the Centovalli train thru Italy to Locarno and all was covered by a Swiss Pass. i once also took a Swiss postal bus over the Simplon Pass from Brig (or Visp?) to Domodossola and the Italian part on that bus was also covered. thanks for info.
