Train travel Venice to Cinque Terre
We are travelling by train on a Saturday in late April, from Venice to Cinque Terre. If possible, we'd like to stop for a short look around at a town on the way. We are discussing either Verona or Bologna.

Can someone advise us what is the best train to catch?
And how long it takes from Venice to Cinque Terre?
And any opinions on a nice place to stop during the day's travels, such as Verona or where?
Many thanks.

Where to in the CT? It's a long trip no matter what. Best trains from Venice to Monterosso are direct, leaving at 10:00/15:00 and arriving at 15:57/20:59. The routing is through Verona (the Venice-Monterosso ticket would entitle one to stop in Verona and take the later train), Milan and Genoa. There are no direct trains to any other village to the CT.

Out from Verona, there's a train leaving at 11:50, with a change in Milano Lambrate, arriving in Monterosso at 17:11. One could take an early train out from Venice (say, at 7:00, arriving at 8:25) and follow on the 11:50 train.
