There are hourly intercity trains between Brussels and Rotterdam, the journey takes about 2 hours. No need to book in advance as there are no reserved seats anyway, just get a ticket at the station before departure.
The Thalys service is less frequent, more expensive and hardly any quicker (max. 20 min, and that's if you are staying close to Midi station) on this route.
Full fare 2nd class is EUR 24.
