Train time - Prague to Budapest ?

These last few posts on Prague and Budapest are very interesting, as it appears to be our next area of interest for travel. Can anyone give me an estimate of train time from Prague to Budapest? What about Budapest - Vienna? Thank you.

It takes about 7-8 hours to go from Prague to Budapest, but it didn't seem than long. Don't know about Budapest to Vienna.

Fodors

As Linda says, seven hours by day abd eight by night. Since that's a bit of a short night it's a good idea to board and go to bed early, something like 2245. I think the reason the day trip seems short is that they are very comfortable trains, with a restaurant car.

Budapest to Vienna is three hours, again in a good train with restaurant car.

Please write if I can help further.

Ben Haines, London
Just returned from 16 days in Budapest, Prague, and Vienna. From Budapest for about $50 first class, it took a little over three hrs to Vienna. From Vienna to Prague it took over 5hrs. and again cost under $50. first class. If you have not seen Vienna, I suggest breaking your trip there and enjoying the sights, food, and museums. We were told that there is a train, not often, direct between the cities but you lose a day.

There is an overnight train that I took from Budapest to Prague. I am not sure about the other direction. It was a fun experience and you so not lose a day. Also, there is a boat that goes on the Danude between Budapest and Vienna and the other way around. If you are going in the nice weather, that would be a great way to get from one place to the other. The time is about the same as the train.
