>They cannot be bought in Germany.
Completely false information. I have purchased several upon arrival at the long distance train station at Frankfurt airport.
Whether one should buy a pass depends on one's itinerary. One has to figure out what the regular fares would be or the specials that are available 92 days in advance. Go to www.bahn.de, select English at the top of the page, put in the data for your trips and choose the best deal. You should also compare the cost in Euros to the cost in dollars. Multiply the Euro cost by 1.39 which is or was the latest exchange rate. If you do decide to buy a pass it can be validated at the same time.

I'm sorry but I was relying on the information on the DB website which says "The German Rail Pass Special can only be purchased online and at all DB Bahn Agencies in non-European markets." It makes no mention of sales at German airports. The price, however, will be the same as buying online. These are not tickets that Germans (or other Europeans) can buy.

I rechecked the DB website and you are probably correct when it comes to the Special Pass. I was referring to the regular pass. When I bought my last pass the Special Pass did not exist.
At today's exchange rate the pass that the OP speaks of would cost about $280.00 purchased in Germany. RailEurope wants $295.00 + shipping.
