Train or plane?

We will be going to Avignon after spending time in Paris. We plan to rent a car and tour from there. Should we fly from Paris or take the TGV?

I'd go the time saving route and take the train. Getting out to an airport, allowing time before the flight, and traveling in to Avignon from nearest airport all adds up to more time and much more hassle than just taking a train.

I had never heard of an airport at Avignon until you asked this question, and it is there at Avignon, apparently. Four flights a day from Orly (still can't identify which airline) of 75 minutes. I think that Patrick is right about the TGV being faster, but it doesn't seem like this is enough facts to ascertain factual superiority of the train.

Best wishes,

Rex

Another vote for the TGV. By the time you schlepped to Orly and went through security and flew to Avignon you'd have spent at least an extra two hours getting there. Not worth it. The TGV is fast and easy.

Huh, REX? How many more facts do you need? The only logical reason I can think of to take the plane rather than the train is if:
a) jazzyred is staying not in Paris but out near Orly and also in the country near the Avignon airport
b) jazzyred gets sick riding on trains or hates looking at scenery
c) jazzyred prefers being crowded onto a plane after going through the hassles of check in and wait times at an airport, instead of the easy (meaning lack of) check in and comfortable seating on a train.

<<How many more facts do you need?

The only logical reason I can think of to take the plane...

jazzyred is staying ... out near Orly>>

I said I think you are right - - but you pointed out one fact that might influence the answer... but the other important fact we need is: what IS the air fare for the flight? It seems unlikely that it is cheap(er than the train), but I just hate surmising, when facts could somehow be ascertained.

What surprises me most is that I have never heard of this airport! and can't find what airline serves this route.

Some of you are really thinking. I am staying close to Orly and am travelling countryside near Avignon. Air France does fly to Avignon from Orly and fares are almost identical. I was interested in knowing if one had major advantages. I do like scenery and comfy seats!!! Sounds like TGV wins Thanks for replies.
