Train from Zurich to Florence/Italy

I plan to spend few days in Zurich and then take a train to Florence of Italy in July. Since day and night trains are available, just want to know any nice scenery along the route and day train is recommended. Or, a night train is OK. Thanks.

We took the train from Zurich to Venice last May and, although it was a long trip (with a change of trains in Milan) and of course the addtional mileage to Florence will add to the tiem), there was lovely scenery most of the way ... it would be a shame to miss it. A night train, however, will give you more time in a fabulous city!

We did the night train from Zurich to Florence--worked out very well--saves a long time on a day train when you could be seeing Florence. The train actually arrived in Florence a little early.

assuming you're in America now, another alternative is to fly the same route, which is what we're doing in July. If there is availability, http://www.europebyair.com can get you there for $99 one way. We used them twice last summer and had a very good experience. You will miss the scenery on the 7 hour train ride but you'll get there on a 1.5 hour flight. I believe you have to buy tickets on europebyair while still in America but I could be wrong.
