Train from Sweden to Italy??
I'm thinking about going from Stockholm, Sweden to Italy by train. Has anyone done this and can tell me about this experience?
How many different trains are there and how long does it take and how much does it cost?
Maybe someone can advice me on where to stay in Rome where it's close to everything yet affordable?? Thanks!!

It's not impossible, train from Stockholm to Malmo, Malmo to Copenhagen, Copenhagen to Munich, and Munich to Rome. Only takes 32 hours, too, and probably several hundred euros. You can fly for €30 or so, I'd recommend that. How do you define affordable (for some people, that's €20 a night, for some, €100, big difference).

Er... They did build the bridges and tunnels. The Great Belt Fixed Link Rail tunnel opens around 1997 to link Zealand to Funen the mainland, and the Öresund road/rail bridge opened in 2000 to link Sweden.
Fastest connections from Stockholm to Rome takes just over 28 hours with 4 or 5 changes.

I took a train from Stockholm to the south of France and will NOT do it again...scenic but just too long. Why not check out Sterling Airlines for a cheap ticket? I'm flying Rome to Stockholm in October and got a one way ticket for $120.00 on Alitalia. RyanAir also flies from an airport one hour south of Stockholm into Ciampino.
